Albania motorhome travel rules
Albania is welcoming but uneven for motorhomes: camping is possible in many coastal and park areas, yet local protected-area or municipal instructions, mountain roads and service gaps matter more than one national rule.

Popular motorhome corridors
Overnight parking and wild camping
Plan overnight stops around campsites, authorised pitches, private permission or advice from protected-area and municipal information points.
- Official tourism guidance says camping can be allowed in national parks and along the coast, but some areas can prohibit it.
- Keep awnings, chairs, fires and waste disposal off public land unless the site clearly allows a camping setup.
Campsites, coast and service gaps
Albania has campsites for campers and tents, but water, grey-water disposal, cassette disposal and electricity are not equally available everywhere.
- Confirm service points before the Albanian Alps, Theth, Valbona, Korab, Vjosa and remote southern routes.
- In July and August, coastal campsites and beach parking can fill early; reserve or arrive before evening.
Tolls, parking and road conditions
Do not plan around a countrywide vignette, but check current road notices, route-specific tolls, ferry costs and city or beach parking before committing to a route.
- ARRSH road-condition notices are useful before mountain passes, winter drives and construction zones.
- Large motorhomes should avoid relying on map distance alone; gradients, road width and surface quality can dominate travel time.
City, beach and protected-area access
There is no broad low-emission sticker system for touring motorhomes, but access limits are practical and local.
- Old-town streets, beach approaches and village roads can be unsuitable for long or high vehicles even when navigation suggests them.
- Protected areas can restrict vehicle access, fires, camping locations and waste handling; ask the AKZM or local information point.
Documents, licence and insurance
Carry passport or ID, driving licence, registration, insurance proof and rental border permission if the motorhome is hired.
- Confirm green-card or local insurance coverage before entering from Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia or Greece.
- Check B, C1 and trailer categories for heavy motorhomes or combinations over ordinary car limits.
Mountain weather, heat and fire risk
Albania can move quickly from hot coast to cold mountains, so tyre, water and weather planning are part of the route.
- Expect snow, ice, fog or closures on high routes in winter and shoulder seasons; carry chains when forecasts require them.
- In summer, avoid open fires, carry extra water and choose legal shaded stops before long coastal queues.
