When traveling in an RV, especially with children, it's advisable to minimize travel time. Bastien Bertorello, an IT project manager based in Salon-de-Provence, developed Road Trip Planner with this in mind. This innovative tool enables users to plan routes according to their desired driving time, ranging from 1 to 10 hours, incorporating stops and points of interest around the final destination.
Bertorello shares his personal experience, noting that long journeys with his daughters, aged 5 and 9, can become complicated. Prior to creating this tool, he found that existing solutions focused on distance rather than the realities of family travel. "You don’t drive 7.5 hours a day in an RV with kids," he remarks.
This new tool addresses this gap by allowing users to input a destination and receive a tailored route. It also searches for campgrounds, service areas, and places of interest near each stop. However, a GPS is still necessary for real-time navigation, as Road Trip Planner does not provide direct guidance.
Currently under development, the site may still exhibit flaws, such as unrelated results. Nevertheless, it also offers suggestions for points of interest like restaurants and monuments, although some users may find this information similar to what Google Maps provides.
The tool aims to be scalable and improves based on user feedback. Users can try Road Trip Planner for free with two trials without commitment, while a premium option is available for unlimited use. Subscription-free plans are also offered.
