Tommy Campers has unveiled a new build featuring a stretched Volkswagen Amarok XL, designed for serious off-grid touring. This setup includes the S6X slide-on camper, alongside a robust REDARC power system and 400W of solar energy.

This build provides an alternative to the traditional 79 Series LandCruiser, which has long been the go-to choice for slide-on campers. The new Amarok build aims to offer off-grid capabilities without compromising on the comfort and technology found in modern utes.

The Amarok PanAmericana TDI600 serves as the base vehicle, enhanced by a 298mm wheelbase extension provided by Adaptive Manufacturing. This modification allows for better weight distribution of the camper over the chassis, improving handling and stability.

Along with a 3800kg GVM upgrade and a 2-inch lift, this vehicle is equipped to handle the demands of off-road adventures. Tommy Campers has ensured that the custom tray for this build is also specifically designed to support the S6X camper, featuring efficient storage solutions.

The slide-on camper itself boasts numerous amenities, including a queen-size foam mattress, LED lighting, and a fully-equipped kitchen featuring a 130L Bushman fridge and a 12V oven. The interior is designed for comfort, with an established living space that includes storage solutions and a Porta Potti.

High-quality features such as twin Sirocco fans and diamond stitching elevate the camper's appeal for touring enthusiasts.

The electrical setup is a key highlight of this build, featuring a REDARC Manager Alpha 75 system, a 300Ah lithium battery, and two 200W semi-flex solar panels. This comprehensive power system allows for extended off-grid camping without the worry of draining the battery. Additionally, the RedVision display simplifies battery monitoring and control, making it user-friendly.

With a range of practical touring accessories, including a 270-degree awning and recovery boards, this Amarok XL build is clearly designed for serious adventurers. Unlike the commonly used 79 Series LandCruiser, this Amarok offers a more refined and accessible option for those seeking premium touring capabilities.
