Toyota Australia has announced a significant safety recall of more than 13,000 current-generation LandCruiser Prado vehicles, specifically due to a software fault that may obscure critical warning indicators on the dashboard. This recall impacts around 13,042 Prado (GDJ250R) units manufactured between June 2024 and June 2025.
The identified software error affects the combination meter, potentially preventing important warning messages relating to engine oil pressure, engine coolant temperature, and electrical charging from displaying correctly during vehicle startup. While this software glitch does not impair vehicle operation, the lack of warning indicators could elevate the risk of accidents, according to Toyota's recall notice.
The recall pertains to specific Prado 250 series variants sold in Australia, including VX, Altitude, and Kakadu models. Toyota has stated that affected owners will receive a software update at no cost, which can be performed either at an authorized dealer or through an Over The Air (OTA) update via the vehicle's multimedia system.
The OTA fix will roll out in two updates, with in-vehicle notifications alerting owners when the updates become available.
Completing the software update is expected to take between 60 and 90 minutes. Those opting to visit a dealership may need to leave their vehicle longer, depending on workshop availability. In the interim, Toyota advises drivers to continue using their vehicles, but if they encounter display issues, there may be a temporary fix by turning the vehicle off and restarting it.
Toyota plans to directly contact all affected vehicle owners to inform them about the necessary steps. For additional assistance, owners can reach the Toyota Recall Campaign Helpline at 1800 987 366 or consult their local Toyota dealer.
