Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has introduced the ID. California Cruise, marking the debut of the first all-electric California model. This new vehicle is based on the ID. Buzz and is aimed at travelers looking for an electric Bulli for everyday use, excursions, and tours. The camper offers sleeping accommodation for two people alongside new camping features.
The world premiere of the Volkswagen ID. California Cruise will take place in 2026 at the Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf. This model marks the beginning of a new all-electric California family, which Volkswagen plans to expand with additional models by 2028. The ID. California Cruise is based on the ID. Buzz Pro, which is available in two wheelbase variants.
The vehicle follows a flexible concept, focusing on sleeping arrangements, versatile use, and spontaneous travel capabilities. Inside, it provides a sleeping space for two people, measuring 2.03 meters in length and 1.20 meters in width, along with a newly developed nine-centimeter thick comfort folding mattress.
Camping amenities include ventilation grilles for the front side windows, blackout elements for all windows, two camping chairs, and a camping table that can be stored compactly within the vehicle. Additionally, the ID. California Cruise offers an optional panoramic glass roof with appropriate blackout features.
A new California mode, specially designed for camping operations, optimizes lighting and comfort functions, provides continuous power to USB ports, and adjusts climate control for overnight stays. The ID.
California Cruise can serve as a mobile power source, delivering a continuous output of up to 2,000 watts and a peak output of 3.6 kW to operate devices such as coolers and cooktops. The California App will support charging planning along the route for electric models, and the Plug & Charge system enables automatic charging at compatible charging stations.
