RV enthusiasts using the Alde 3030 heating system must be aware that unlike older models, the 3030 requires a complete power shutdown after a gas outage. Simply replacing the gas cylinder is insufficient. Once the 3030 encounters a 'Gas failure' message, it needs direct intervention to reset before it can be restarted.
To reset the Alde 3030, the 12V power supply to the heater must be completely cut off. This often poses challenges since the heater may be installed in hard-to-reach places, such as under beds or within cabinets. Unfortunately, the main control panel in the RV does not suffice; the power must be disconnected directly at the Alde heater.
This important safety feature was confirmed by Alde representatives during the Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf. The necessity of cutting power at the heater is a significant change from the Alde 3020 and earlier systems, where restarting was usually simpler after changing the gas bottle. The manual emphasizes this process on page 282 of the Alde user guide in Norwegian.
An accessible circuit breaker or switch for the Alde system could simplify the procedure but is rarely available. Alternatively, the EBL circuit may provide an option for shutting off power. Installation of any additional equipment should be performed by qualified personnel to ensure safety.
Furthermore, installing an automatic gas bottle switch, such as the DuoControl from Truma, can help mitigate the risk of running out of gas. This device allows for automatic switching between gas bottles, providing enough time to replace the empty cylinder before the system runs dry. It's worth noting that the 'Gas failure' alert could stem from issues other than an empty gas bottle.
