Yasin Buras, a 27-year-old traveler with roots in Morocco, has embarked on a remarkable 160-day road trip throughout Africa in his 2013 Hymer Starline motorhome. Starting from wintering in southern Europe, he has covered an impressive 30,000 km, navigating through regions often deemed challenging for vehicular travel.

His journey began with his arrival in Morocco, detailing the experiences documented in a series of articles.

Having kicked off his travels early each morning, Yasin drove through Morocco and continued into the western part of Sahrawi territory, where he described the scenic roads as being of high standard. He enjoyed camping at Boujdour and Dakhla, the latter famed for its kite surfing.

During his travels, Yasin expressed a preference for staying at campsites that foster connections among like-minded adventurers, although he also frequently enjoys wild camping in the African landscape.

Continuing his journey, Yasin prepared for crossing into Mauritania while being mindful of the protocols at the border. He arrived at the Guerguerat border crossing late at night and planned to sleep in his vehicle to be among the first in line the following morning.

Yasin faced a lengthy five-hour wait due to the chaotic nature of the border procedures but managed to navigate through with patience. Notably, he highlighted the importance of complying with local customs, such as avoiding alcohol, which is prohibited in both Mauritania and Morocco.

Once in Mauritania, he described the vast desert landscape and the initial stop at Villa Magella, a campsite run by a Dutch national, where he stayed for four days to recharge and interact with fellow travelers. The camaraderie at the site often facilitated the exchange of travel tips and advice.

The condition of the roads became a significant challenge as well, with Yasin reporting that Google Maps’ estimated travel times from the border to Nouakchott could drastically underestimate real-world conditions, leading to a more laborious journey than anticipated.

Yasin Buras's journey exemplifies resilience and the adventurous spirit of RV travel in Africa. His experiences serve as a resource and inspiration for fellow travelers considering similar expeditions, showcasing both the beauty and challenges of exploring lesser-traveled regions.
